I read somewhere that the average distance from a human’s head to its heart is about 18 inches.
I got out my measuring tape, and as a shorter girl, I come in at fourteen. This short distance got me thinking about having head knowledge and becoming heart smart.
Why does it take so long for information in my head to reach my heart, and just the opposite, why does it take my heart so long to convince my head what to do?
Confusing? Let me explain. Let’s say I’ve been told all the great things about serving others. Sounds good, makes good great sense. I feel smarter because of these things I know. But until that information reaches my heart, I don’t take action.
I think the cliché “Take Heart” sums it up. We can have information hit our heads over and over again, but until that information hits our hearts it is nearly useless information.
Paul in the Bible knew this as he wrote a letter to the Ephesians. Paul is pretty excited, thrilled, that they are taking to the Christian faith. But he knows it takes more than head knowledge to fully come to grasp with God. So he writes: I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:17-19a
Head knowledge, heart smart.
Paul hit the nail on the head when he prays for our “eyes of our hearts to be enlightened”. When our head knowledge becomes heart knowledge, suddenly we start seeing things for their true meaning. We desire to take action for the things that are in our hearts. So what information is stuck in your head and needs to make it’s way to your heart?
Today I’m sharing a very cool version of the song “Open the Eyes of My Heart” by Phillips, Craig and Dean. I couldn’t find a video I liked – so I mashed one up with a really cool time lapse of a guys drive cross-country. It seemed to fit. Hope you enjoy and have an incredibly great weekend!
I Love your blog Sherry!

LOVE this post! It really hit home with me today because I have had a disconnect between my heart and head on an issue. Awesome choice of video as well.

This message really hits home with me – how do you keep doing that??
I’m reading books and attending small groups on improving relationships and need to take some things into action. Thanks for the wake up call!
