Snippets: On the Path

Two quotes from a book,

smashed together into a compilation…

Snippets taken from Velvet Elvis:  Chapter 4 / Tassels / Healing; Chapter 7 / Good / Good News.

If you’ve never read Velvet Elvis and could use something reFRESHing, then this book is for you!  I loved it…  Puhleeazze, do not get all freaked out over Rob Bell, seriously – you can’t make a judgment call unless you’ve actually read him, listened to him… and even then, if you still don’t like him and want to scream HERESY… well, I’ll respect your opinion, but he is helping to bring people to a relationship with Jesus.  And isn’t that the first step of the journey?

  1. Love it – so many things I have been reading the past couple of weeks are speaking this as it’s right where I’m at personally in my life!

  2. Nice quote – reminds me of a poem I read recently –

    I have studied many times
    The marble which was chiselled for me —
    A boat with a furled sail at rest in a harbour.
    In truth it pictures not my destination but my life.

    For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment;
    Sorrow knocked at my door, but I was afraid;
    Ambition called to me, but I dreaded the chances.
    Yet all the while I hungered for meaning in my life.

    And now yet I know that we must lift the sail
    And catch the winds of destiny
    Wherever they drive the boat.
    To put meaning in one’s life may end in madness,

    But still life without meaning is the torture
    Of restlessness and vague desire —
    It is a boat longing for the sea and yet afraid.
