I will love myself despite the ease with which I lean toward the opposite.
I heard this line and stopped.
Just for a moment.
isn’t this true for all of us?
See, I talk with clients about their thoughts, the ones that bring pain, all the time. Even clients who don’t think this is an issue–discover it is. Over and over our reoccurring painful thoughts tell us we are wrong, unloveable, outcast, misfits, unworthy. And I don’t judge a single soul for thinking this way…because we’re all the same. Somehow hard-wired–on some level–to consider we deserve less love. Less grace.
So yes, the moment I heard that line: I will love myself despite the ease with which I lean toward the opposite — I knew it was worth committing to memory.
Busy Soul, today, can I ask for twelve small moments of your time? To watch this video. Because it’s important. Because we all need to keep struggling towards more love. More grace. More beauty.
We just do.
ps: it’s okay to laugh at 4:50 when he say’s “smarter than the average bear….” well you’ll see. it’s okay. it is.
to entice you more… the artistic stop motion animation (around 6:50) combining collage art and illustration makes this worth the watch.
but the words – the message – will pull you in just.as.much.
and moms… listen up, at 7:35, please know and hear this truth – you are absolutely beautiful. no.matter.what.you.just.are.
So to repeat Shane Koyczan beautiful powerful words, “if you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself, get a better mirror, look a little closer, stare a little longer, cause there’s something inside you that made you keep trying despite everyone who told you to quit.”
Beautiful soul, I don’t call you this with generic ease. I call you this because I know it to be true. God did not make one ugly thing. And no matter where you are at, no matter how into the hole of yuck you’ve gone, there.is.a.way.out.
A better mirror? How? Sometimes it takes deep therapy, sometimes what I offer (this or that) will work wonders. Sweet amazing beautiful soul, please find a better mirror. One that shows truth. You are a good friend, spouse, sibling, partner, child, parent, person. Soul.
Finding that better mirror. Getting help to find it, see into it.
You are worth it.
