  1. We are gals who love teaching, creating & making artsy stuff:  Sherry Meneley, Maureen Reissmann, and Karen Cook.
  2. We believe the creative process should be fun and approachable for anyone.
  3. We believe in using what you have. Using all that JUNK IN YOUR TRUNK.
  4. We love creative community. In person and online. After enrolling in a retreat, we invite you to be part of the Junk In Your Trunk online community (Facebook Page).

Pack your trunks! Whether you are part of the tribe that has retreated with some of the Junk In Your Trunk gals in the past —  or it’s all new to you — we are certain you will find the Junk In Your Trunk adventures to be a creative and wonderful experience.

You will be guided step-by-step through projects and then be FULLY encouraged to trust that creative voice inside you that makes every piece of art you take away to be personal and treasured.

Please note, this is an outdoor adventure. Should weather be questionable, we will move inside the home. Because we hope to be outdoors, please prepare yourself with layers. We will be under a canopy of large beautiful trees most of the day. The weather should be amazing, and add to our creative adventure.

Adventure / Workshop Itinerary

We will gather-up Friday evening at the beautiful historic home Victorian Rose of Biggs mid-evening for a meet-and-greet nibbles and wine happy hour. A great way to connect to others on the weekend adventure with you.

victorian rose

While we connect and unwind, we’ll do a small art journaling activity and set some intentions for the weekend. We’ll incorporate these into the weekend’s activities and project. You will be able to leave your supplies at the location.

At 8:30 pm we’ll say our goodnights, and meet up again in the morning.

8:30-9:00AM Good Morning and Breakfast (provided).
Meet up and settle in at the Victorian Rose, and enjoy a continental breakfast, coffee, and teas.

9:00AM – 12:30PM Class starts // Building Your Mash-Up Journal.
We will focus on gathering images, folding, binding. We’ll look for interesting forms, imagery, letting our instincts take over. Find harmony in your journal with additions of scribbles, words, images. Add, subtract or modify with tip-ins and abstract changes. If you attended the prior evening meet-and-greet, you will incorporate those items into your journal as well.

12:30PM – 1:30PM  Break & Lunch (provided).
Grab a bite to eat and stroll the beautiful grounds at the Victorian Rose.

1:30PM – 4:30PM Poetic Prose
Our guest instructor, Susan Wooldridge, will guide us on a journey of prose. She is the Author of Poemcrazy: Freeing Your Life with Words, and will have us crafting words into heartfelt wondrous phrases. Her style of intuitive collaborative instruction makes writing approachable–even for the most timid–it’s a delight and relaxing trip for the mind and soul.

4:30PM – 5:00PM Wrap up for the day.
Clean up and gather your journal bits. Take your journals with you if you wish to write in them during your time away.  Evening instruction.

5:00PM On your own.

7:00PM – 8:30PM Group Dinner (optional)
We will announce where the Junk In Your Trunk gals are going to demolish some food.  If you’d like to join, we’d love your company.

8:30-9:00AM Good Morning and Breakfast (provided).
Meet up and settle in, and enjoy a continental breakfast, coffee, and teas.

9:00AM – 10:00AM Wonky Warped Writing and Collage.
Learn to write like the vintage Art Nouveau posters of the 60s & 70s. We’ll learn to take a page in your journal that you’re not quite sure what to do with, and watch it transform into art by writing in a way that practically fills up every inch of space with undulating and free-flowing lines

10:30AM – 12:30PM Postcards from the past, present, future.
If you could tell yourself….  We will play with the idea of advice to our older self, our younger self, our hidden self. With abstract liquid watercolor painting, we will create beautiful postcards and send ourselves messages from the past, present, and future. These will be incorporated into your journal in a variety of ways.

12:30PM – 1:30PM  Break & Lunch (provided).
Grab a bite to eat and stroll the beautiful grounds at the Victorian Rose.

1:30PM – 4:00PM Last Leg of the Adventure – the final stretch.
It’s always tempting to try to squeeze in “one more thing” to teach.  But what we’ve learned along the way of teaching at workshops and retreats is that YOU WANT this last stretch to be all yours. To bring your journal into a place of feeling complete (or complete enough). And what we know, is your journal can keep being added to. More words, More images. It is truly a journey and something you will treasure.

4:00PM-4:30PM Clean up and say our goodbyes
